About OA
Mission Statement
"We exist to provide trainings, environments, experiences, and resources which lead people, especially youth, in growing closer to God through the ministry of Christian wilderness adventures."
Greetings from Outdoor Adventures,Outdoor Adventures is a family-owned and operated guide service and outfitting company. We are a fellowship that has dedicated our lives to serving youth. Outdoor Adventures has been providing expeditions in the San Juan Islands, Cascade Mountains, and the greater Seattle area for nearly 20 years and continues to grow in our offerings of adventures, instruction, tours, rentals, and gear sales. The heart of Outdoor Adventures is our dedication to work with teens and youth at-risk. We have been involved in many volunteer activities in our community over the past 25 years and have focused on assisting youth in the Redmond and Index communities. Over time ,the core OA staff has initiated many outreach programs that were later incorporated by city parks and recreation departments and school district programs. Our staff created and implemented after school sports programs construction of a tagging wall in Redmond for local teen artists, offered teen feeds and activities at the Old Fire House teen center, established a soccer program for Latino students, and facilitates year-round activities for a significant number of students who are at risk. Bill Corson, president of Outdoor Adventures, has worked with at-risk youth for over three decades, beginning in the ghetto areas of Los Angeles with late night basketball programs and has witnessed the life changing experience of connecting youth with hope, love and the truth that is only found in Jesus Christ. In 1985 we discovered the importance of leading teens into wilderness adventures. The effectiveness of experiential education and the realization and dependence on God’s guidance in the outdoors is one of the most powerful tools in challenging and transforming teens. When teens are removed from their controlled daily environments and transported to an environment where God’s attributes are plainly and dramatically displayed, life changing transformations often occur.Outdoor Adventures staff are competent outdoor instructors and hold certificates in wilderness camping, sea kayaking, whitewater kayaking, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, rock climbing, snowboarding, low & high ropes, surfing, diving, orienteering, and most importantly, advanced biblical instruction. Outdoor Adventures has focused on working as an “edge” ministry, placing ourselves in the community and living as “salt and light”. We are not an evangelistic ministry, and work with Christian and community groups alike. Our leadership is demonstrated through servanthood; always standing ready with the answer for our faith and the hope that lies within us. We strive to rescue teens from hopeless life situations and connect them with people and organizations that can minister to their needs. We desire to partner with churches and organizations that can provide the ongoing help that these teens need.Outdoor Adventures is based in Index & Redmond Washington. These locations are centrally located and function as education/drop-in centers to link individuals, churches, businesses and organizations with outdoor opportunities and instruction. To this date all of these ministries have been supported completely by the staff. As an outfitting organization we offer year-round classes and adventures. The classes include sea kayak navigation, intro to paddle-strokes, beginning whitewater and sea kayak trips, roll classes, open pool nights, outdoor cooking, bike trips, rafting trips, rock climbing, and events! For many years the San Juan Islands and the Cascade Mountains has become our summer homes. From early March to late September we lead camping, kayaking, and bicycle tours and expeditions for groups of all sizes, ages, and abilities. Especially popular are our teen adventures where we kayak, raft, hike, bike, and climb to the more remote areas and exploring spectacular and uninhabited islands. Not all of our trips are roughin it, however. We also offer trips to destinations including the Pacific Coastline, Idaho, Hawaii, Canada, Baja, and Equador, and can customize each trip to the level of adventure that best fits your group. All of the OA staff are also trained and certified as Adaptive Paddling Instructors for the American Canoe Association. This direction has inspired us to reach out to persons with disabilities and facilitate trips and outfit "adaptive" paddling adventures. One of the significant strengths of OA is our staff’s passion, diversity, training, and experience. Qualifications and training include Advanced Wilderness First Aid for Leaders, Advanced Swiftwater Rescue, Whitewater River Raft guide training, ACA Open-ocean sea kayak & whitewater certifications, EMT trainings, and Lifeguard training.
